ABOUT
Setat A fashion brand by the designer Hana Amer Kawas that combines traditional Druze embroidery woven and created as a tribute to Druze women and the women of the village of Julis where Hana grew up and lives.
The village women are the inspiration for the brand and the belief that design created from culture and inspiration has a purpose, To design clothes for women who wish to add authenticity and statement to their wardrobe.
Setat means “strong women” and it is these strong village women I wish to place at center stage.
I use the pattern of the djelabia and traditional weaving as inspiration for my designs. The village women,
whose portraits are featured on the clothing, are the ones who work the embroidery by hand, using cotton, wool,
silk, line, velvet, beads, and sequins.
The fashion line reflects the integration of traditional, unique, high-quality embroidery made by hand by the village women combined with sophisticated digital printing techniques. The manufacturing process is based on fair employment codes of practice adapted to the needs of the embroiderers, most of whom are religious.
